Kruger National Park – Mluwati Private Concession

NO MATTER WHICH OF THE THREE UNIQUE LODGES GRACING THIS ATTRACTIVE 10000HA CONCESSION YOU CHOOSE, YOU ARE IN FOR A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE.

The open grasslands of the Mluwati Concession, situated to the South-West of Satara on the Kruger-Manyeleti Private reserve border teem with life. Large herds of grazers are common, which inevitably are followed by an impressive entourage of predators. Game Drives/Safaris here are never without encounters, and you are sure to see lions, zebra, wildebeest, giraffes, elephants and more.

ACCOMMODATION

Imbali Safari Lodge

This flagship is constructed along the lines of a traditional bushveld lodge. However, to minimise impact on the surroundings, many of the large Jackleberry’s (some are in fact hundreds of years old) were conserved during constriction of the lodge back in 2003. Some of these threes actually grow inside the buildings giving the entire lodge a wonderful sense of the living bushveld. Every suite is equipped with its own little private plunge pool on the timber deck – a perfect space to relax during the day. Enjoy outdoor dining on our beautiful deck or in the Boma whilst gazing up at the “ceiling” lined only with stars.

Hoyo Hoyo Safari Lodge

The name Hoyo Hoyo means “welcome” in Tsonga and the camp is styled in a typical Shangaan vernacular manner offering visitors a truly African welcome in the heart of Kruger. This eclectic African chic architecture with its tall conical thatched roofs is comfortable and uniquely positioned along an ancient elephant path. In fact, the daily caravan of the huge pachyderms that pass the lodge is one of the great highlights of staying at Hoyo Hoyo. Immerse yourself in the relaxed atmosphere of Africa which permeates this little Kruger gem.

Hamiltons Tented Camp

All the style and elegance of a typical explorers camp of the early 1900s has been observed at Hamiltons. From the antique silver cutlery to staff who welcome and greet one in song as they carry your luggage to your exquisitely appointed luxury tent.

General

Children under 12 are not permitted at either Hamiltons or Hoyo Hoyo. Imbali Safari Lodge gladly welcomes children from 6 years old. Private vehicles are available to be booked at an additional charge when travelling with kids younger than 12.

Wildlife

All three lodges are cleverly situated in different areas of the 100 square kilometre area of the concession. Each has been constructed to minimise the human footprint on the landscape. This means that the trees grow through the decks and the entire space is literally alive. All three lodges are situated on river courses and although Imbali and Hoyo rivers are generally dry in winter, they offer waterholes that attract a diverse collection of animals daily. Baboons and vervet monkeys move noisily along the tree lines canopy, whilst bushbuck pick through the dense bushes surrounding the decks. It is not unusual to experience massive herds of elephants bathing in the Ngwenyeni Dam at Hamiltons or spotting a massive leopard from the deck at Hoyo Hoyo. A highlight of some dinners at Imbali is the silent spectacle of a lion pride quenching its thirst or stalking some buffalo.

Zebra, wildebeest and Buffalo herds crisscross the concession, which attracts large numbers of predators. Two dominant lion prides call this region home, whilst a really impressive number of leopards patrol the riverine areas and are frequent sightings to the delight of our guests. Cheetah, Wild dog and Rhino make up some of our other big sightings that earn this concession a worldwide reputation for producing great game viewing.
